NSC Series No 3

National junior Sanjay Singh Chal scored the biggest upset of the day when he scalped top seed Harinder Pal Sandhu in the first round of the NSC Series No 3 tournament in Bukit Jalil yesterday.
Sanjay is the only survivor in the men's draw after his 11-6, 11-7, 11-8 win set up a quarter-final against England's Michael Harris as teammates Valentino Bong, Amir Farhan and Gurshan Singh all made early exits.

Sanjay And Rachel Romp To Under-19 Titles

GEORGE TOWN: Sanjay Singh Chal and Rachel Arnold steered Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) to a double in the 1st leg of the CIMB National Junior Squash Circuit which ended at the Nicol David International Squash Centre yesterday.

The 18-year-old Sanjay lived up to his top billing as he swept aside Perak’s Choy Ming Wei 11-3. 11-5, 11-9 in the boys’ Under-19 final. Sanjay, who will be playing in the Profesional Squash Association (PSA) circuit in Kuala Lumpur next month, did not drop a set en route to the title.

“It was just what I had wanted. Utilising this first leg to build up my confidence for the coming PSA circuit, where I have made the main draw. The 3-0 victories all the way to the title is certainly a big morale booster,” said the Sarawakian, who is also preparing for the CIMB KL Open which will serve off on Mar 26.

Rachel was just as dominating in her 11-8, 11-3, 11-5 win over Penang’s Celine Yeap for the girls’ Under-19 crown.

“It is indeed a promising start to the year,” said Rachel, who will be back in Penang for the Malaysian School’s (MSSM) championship from March 12-16.

“I have not featured in this tournament for the past two years. This victory has inspired me to aim for another golden finish.”
